We stayed at the Bunratty Castle Hotel accross the street from the castle itself... so after an afternoon of shopping at the Woolen Mills shops for the afternoon we went back "home" and got ready for the banquet. It was really quite awesome.
I was skeptical, thinking it would be cheesy, a little like a Vegas show. But i was pleasantly suprised by the authenticity and talent. There was great costumes, the music was live and great (a Harpist and Violinist, then afterwords a bagpipe player) singing, a little bit of entertainment but best of all, the food!
We were handed a small glass of Mead when we walked in (honey wine) and then served a 4 course meal in old school medieval fashion. We had no utensils except for a knife. It was actually really cool. First an amazing hot soup we drank from a bowl. Potato and herbs and broth. Really rich flavor. Then the "bacon" they call it, which was actually pork spareribs. Then the main course a special roasted chicken and potatos that we ate with our knives and hands. And a delish berry dessert. Pretty fun. Great music. Very festive. Picture time!!!
